Third Time Lucky

"No. I will not ask for leave."
"Why are you being so difficult?"
"Then what do you expect me to be? Why should I take leave to meet this guy in another city?"
Her mom patiently explained, "They are relations of aunt. You know that. They have asked us to come to aunt's house. It is just a matter of one day."
"Okay," she said grumpily.
She could not wrap her head around this concept of arranged marriage. She revelled in going against her parents, in small matters too.
But when it had come to marriage, she could not find anyone who checked all her strict, self-imposed criteria. So, she agreed to meet prospective suitors. Thankfully, arranged marriages were far more progressive and flexible than before.
Her first tryst with the dreaded groom meeting was too brief and she did not get any opportunity to interact with the guy. Therefore, when there was no response after it was over, she was relieved.
The second one though was hilarious. The groom's family was coming from another city and her father had gone to receive them. As she sat waiting inside her room, her father came in and said, "They have come. It's perfectly okay if you say 'no', because it's a 'no' from my side."
With such an introduction, she didn't know what to expect. But as soon as she saw the groom and his family, she knew that there was no way that she would say  'yes'. Though her family had already decided that this was an exercise in futility, the groom's family was still in a positive mood. Then the guy had asked if he could talk to her alone and she could gauge her family's reactions. She was immensely amused when the guy in all seriousness asked her, "What do you think about working after marriage?" "It depends," she said, while what she really wanted to say was, "Whose marriage? Yours or mine?"
She laughed aloud as she remembered that meeting. A few days later, she travelled to her aunt's place with her parents and enjoyed her time with her cousins.
The time for the fateful meeting came and when they sat down to talk, she had only one thought, "I really like this guy. Is there any reason why I should say 'no'? No...there are none."

Ten years later, here I am with my chosen one! Some people are lucky to find love at first sight, some keep searching for theirs, some like Ted Mosby take nine seasons to find theirs (and later ruin it completely) while I just got third-time lucky.

(Dedicated to the amusing, annoying but surprisingly successful rigmarole of arranged marriages.)
